What features should good invoicing software have?
Good invoicing software covers the whole money cycle in a business, not just a single invoice. The basics are issuing and sending an invoice quickly, documents and quotes, expense tracking, an overview of payments, export for your accountant, and a safe archive. Lucanto adds AI, team collaboration and a connected document flow on top. In practice it should handle:
- issuing an invoice, a quote, an advance invoice and a credit note,
- invoicing in another currency and another language,
- recurring invoices that issue themselves,
- recording and processing expenses, ideally with AI,
- an overview of paid and unpaid invoices,
- export or direct sharing of records with your accountant,
- team access and a connection over the API.
Below we go through each of these and how Lucanto handles it.
Features for fast invoicing
You create an invoice in Lucanto in a few clicks and have it finished inside a minute. It fills in the client's details automatically by name or registration number from the public registers (SK, CZ), adds a payment QR code for instant payment (SK, CZ), and issues the invoice in four languages (SK, CZ, EN, RO). The VAT-registration check is on the Free plan too, so you know straight away who you are invoicing.
Beyond an ordinary invoice, the paid plans (from Starter) also give you quotes, advance invoices, delivery notes and credit notes. You send the finished invoice to your client by e-mail, attachments included.
AI extraction and document processing
AI extraction means you no longer retype data from documents. You upload a PDF, an image or a photo of a receipt and the Lucanto agent pulls the amount, the supplier, the date and each line item out of it. You review and save, which saves both time and retyping errors. AI expense extraction is part of the paid plans (from Starter); the number of extractions a month depends on the plan — Starter 5, PRO 10, Business 50 — and on PRO and Business you can buy more.
When a lot of documents come in, you process them in bulk — upload several at once and the system tells you when the batch is done. Expense tracking is on the paid plans (from Starter); bulk upload is available from PRO. Exact limits are in the pricing and plan comparison.
Process a document with AI in three steps
Upload or photograph the document
Attach a PDF, an image or a photo of a receipt. You can add several documents at once.
AI pulls out the data
The Lucanto agent recognises the supplier, the amount, the date and each line item, and pre-fills the expense.
Review and save
Correct anything that needs it, save, and the document is recorded and ready for your accountant.
Recurring invoices and the connected workflow
If you invoice a client the same amount every month — a retainer or a subscription, say — you set the recurring invoice up once and Lucanto issues it automatically on your chosen interval. You do not have to think about it or repeat it by hand. Recurring invoices are part of the paid plans, from Starter.
The steps between a quote and a paid invoice tend to be where things get lost — Lucanto connects them into one flow. A quote becomes an advance invoice, the advance becomes a tax document for the payment received, and that becomes the final invoice. Data carries across the documents, so nothing is retyped and nothing goes missing. This connected workflow (quote → advance → invoice) is available from Starter.
Team, accountant export and business finances
Finances do not belong in ten separate tools or in endless e-mail threads. In Lucanto your team discusses invoices, expenses and documents right next to them — fewer e-mails, fewer misunderstandings. You invite your accountant into the space and share records, comments and chat with them. Accountant export comes at two levels: manual export from Starter, automatic export to accounting and full accountant collaboration from PRO. Documents are also held safely in a 10-year digital archive (from PRO).
Lucanto holds your whole business finances together. You invoice in several currencies with the ECB rate pulled in automatically and in four languages, so a cross-border invoice takes no extra thought. Under one login you manage several companies, track expenses and your VAT-registration turnover threshold, and see which invoices are paid and which are not. When you invoice in Slovakia, Lucanto also flags a risky client before you send. Foreign currencies, reverse charge and VAT threshold tracking are available from Starter.
API, MCP and integrations
Through the REST API you connect Lucanto to your own system, online shop or internal tools and automate invoicing. The number of API requests a month depends on the plan — Free has 100, Business up to 20,000 — and API technical support is available from Starter. You connect your bank over PSD2, match income and expenses to invoices, and create payment orders from PRO. There is more on the integrations and API page.
MCP integration — the Model Context Protocol, for working with AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT — is available today on every plan including Free. What you can ask an AI agent for is covered on the AI agents page. We are also preparing e-invoices and Peppol, a mobile app, automatic reminders and automatic transaction sync.

Which Lucanto features do you get free?
The Free plan gives you, permanently and at no cost, the features that are enough to start: an unlimited number of one-off invoices for one user, up to 50 clients, one bank account, one cash account and one number series, and 100 API requests a month. The Free plan also includes the QR code on invoices, VAT-registration checks, automatic client look-up and invoicing in four languages. No card is needed and nobody switches the plan off after a few weeks.
Advanced features such as AI extraction, quotes, recurring invoices, expense tracking and accountant export belong to the paid plans — you turn them on when you actually need them. If you would rather just start, issue your first invoice free.
Frequently asked questions about invoicing software features
What features should good invoicing software have?
It should handle invoices, quotes, advance invoices and credit notes, invoicing in another currency and language, recurring invoices, expense tracking, an overview of payments, and export for your accountant. AI extraction from documents, team collaboration and an API are a real advantage. Lucanto covers all of these and offers basic invoicing free.
Does Lucanto handle recurring invoices?
Yes. If you invoice a client the same amount regularly, you set the recurring invoice up once and Lucanto issues it automatically on the interval you choose. You do not have to remember it or repeat it by hand. Recurring invoices are part of the paid plans, from Starter upwards.
How does AI extraction from documents work?
You upload a document — a PDF, an image or a photo of a receipt — and the Lucanto agent pulls out the amount, the supplier, the date and the individual line items. You review and save; nothing is retyped by hand. AI expense extraction is available on the paid plans from Starter, and the number of extractions a month depends on the plan.
Which features are free on the Free plan?
On the Free plan you issue an unlimited number of one-off invoices for one user, manage 50 clients, and use the payment QR code, VAT-registration checks, automatic client look-up and four invoice languages, with a limit of 100 API requests a month. Quotes, recurring invoices, AI extraction and accountant export belong to the paid plans.
Does Lucanto have an API and MCP integration?
The REST API is available on every plan — Free has 100 requests a month, Business up to 20,000, with API technical support from Starter. Through the API you connect Lucanto to your own system or online shop. MCP integration for working with AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT is also available on every plan including Free, at no extra charge. There is more on the AI agents page.
